Technology and Social Work: Nine Things to Consider About the Use of Cell Phones within the Clinical Setting

The use of cell phones as well as technology in general will only increase in the future. In many populations, the use of cell phones increasingly means culturally and ageappropriate care. While there may be some major concerns for therapists, the use of cell phones or other technologies is increasingly matching client expectations, wants and needs. It is imperative that the therapeutic community follows such cultural trends and shows a willingness to meet their clients where they are. The use of a cell phone, when appropriate, represents an opportunity for social work to be on the front-end of therapeutic change as opposed to playing catch up later.
