About the Presentation:
This presentation provides a clinical overview of the major psychiatric disorder classes, including key diagnostic features, first- and second-line pharmacotherapies, and relevant case studies.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
- Identify the core diagnostic features of major psychiatric disorders, including depressive, anxiety, psychotic, and bipolar disorders.
- Select evidence-based first- and second-line pharmacotherapies for each disorder class, considering clinical indications, mechanisms of action, and key safety precautions.
- Apply pharmacotherapy guidelines to clinical cases by evaluating patient presentations and assessing appropriate treatment decisions.
Bharat Sampathi, M.D.
Dr. Bharat Sampathi is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who provides integrative psychotherapy and medication management for adults. Raised in Palo Alto, he earned his medical degree from the UC Irvine School of Medicine and completed his psychiatry residency at Kaiser Permanente Northern California. His clinical approach is psychodynamically oriented and holistic, tailored to help patients navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, acculturation issues, and performance challenges, among others. In addition to his private practice in Los Altos, Dr. Sampathi serves as an attending psychiatrist at Momentum for Health, where he supervises psychiatry residents. He also holds specialized training from the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.

This course meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit (1.5 CEUs) for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
