About the Presentation:
There are an estimated 63 million family caregivers in the US based on the last National Alliance on Caregiving/AARP report. Caregivers provide a range of care tasks including assisting with personal care, companionship, dementia care, and medical care often with little to no training. Family caregivers are often caring for more than one person in addition to caring for children and working outside the home. While caregivers may find meaning and be able to identify positive aspects of caregiving, it can have a serious impact on their mental and physical health. This presentation will help identify who caregivers are and how to support caregivers in accessing needed resources. It will provide guidance on how to assess caregivers and key clinical techniques for supporting caregivers around challenges they experience.
