Description:

During this presentation, specific cases will be looked at to explore how the holiday season affects individuals from the aging population. In addition to the cases discussed, the presenter will also elaborate on coping strategies to assist clients with getting through the period. We will develop an understanding of how those experiencing medical and mental health conditions may be affected more profoundly during the holiday's, while also providing participants with a chance to share how isolation and loneliness may contribute to a client's experience of depression and the “Holiday Blues.” 


Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, participants will:

  1. Have a greater understanding of "Holiday Blues."
  2. Improve understanding of how other medical, mental health and social conditions impact the aging population during the holidays. 
  3. Learn effective interventions to help clientele from the aging population better manage the season.

        ABOUT THE PRESENTER

        Seth Becker

        Seth Becker comes to us with 22 years of experience at the Veterans Administration, over 25 years with the geriatric population in various other settings. While he works in Social Work at the Veterans Administration, he is also a lecturer on Jewish History, Jewish Cultural Issues and Popular Culture.

        He is originally from Miami Beach, Florida, where the desire to work in a gerontological setting was the beginning of a long career in this field. In addition to working with Veterans, Seth Becker has been involved in the Jewish Community in fundraising and programming capacities. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin, Seth arrived in Los Angeles to pursue a Master of Science in Gerontology and Master of Arts in Jewish Communal Service from the University of Southern California and Hebrew Union College, respectively.

        This is a District Meeting coordinated by the Greater LA District

        This DISTRICT MEETING meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. 

        Note: With supervisor approval, registered ASWs may use CEs toward LCSW hours.
