Guest Facilitator: Sandra Hart, LCSW (she/her)
Note: This meeting will take place from 6:00-7:15 pm.
"Real Talk", a clinical consultation/support group developed with the oversight of the CSCSW's Diversity, Equity and Transformation (DET) Committee, the purpose of which is to provide a space for clinical social workers who identify as being Black, Indigenous, Mixed Race, or Person of Color (BIPOC) to meet on a monthly basis. The focus of this group is to provide an opportunity for networking, building solidarity, exploring intersectionality and decolonizing our practice.
This group is a closed group for individuals who self-identify as Black, Indigenous or Person of Color (BIPOC). The group's objective is to provide a brave space for those in the field to process the ongoing violence against and politicizing of minority groups' lives.
This email reminder is sent out widely to all contacts and is not filtered by how individuals self-identify; therefore, if you have received this email but do not identify as BIPOC, we ask that you respect the intention of this group by not logging in to the meeting. However, we invite you to participate in our monthly CSCSW Diversity, Equity and Transformation (DET) Committee meetings as an ally. As a member of CSCSW, you are invited to attend a variety of open groups such as the Telehealth Consultation/Support Group, Support Group for Social Work Students and ASWs, and Ethics Consultation Group.
Sandra Hart (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Los Angeles. Sandra has been a member of the Diversity, Equity and Transformation Committee since March 2022. Sandra is currently in private practice working with individuals and families. She sees clients through Telehealth in California, and in-person for families in Los Angeles. For over 11 years, Sandra worked as a home visitor for pregnant persons and families with young children in an Early Head Start Program. Sandra gained extensive experience working with families in their homes and in safe, outdoor community spaces. As a result, Sandra has developed an eclectic practice in terms of flexible use of space and creative use of natural resources as a means of self-expression and communication. Spending so much time out in the community with families has also informed Sandra’s commitment to the values of social justice espoused by the social work profession. Sandra was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She came to the United States in her late twenties to attend graduate school in social work. Sandra has a curious, inquiring mind and a tendency to ask a lot of questions about how things work the way they do and why. Sandra’s relentless perseverance for answers has given her a keen understanding of the ways historic cultural paradigms have come to define the social issues affecting her clients. Sandra uses this knowledge when working with her clients to advocate for wider community support and access to essential services. Sandra will be standing in as BIPOC facilitator for the May 16th Real Talk Support Group. Although Sandra is White and does not identify as BIPOC, she is committed to holding space for BIPOC persons and persons whose identities and voices are marginalized and subverted in the broader American culture.
