Presenter: Silvia Barragon, MSW, LCSW & Dianne Ciro, PhD
Description: This training is intended to provide participants with some general and basic information about Latino mental health. Practitioners who participate in this training will learn to: identify mental health disorders that are common in the Latino community; learn to identify barriers to Latinos being able to access adequate mental health care; and learn to identify the role of religion and social supports in Latinos' coping. Attendees will also begin to consider the role of acculturation in Latinos' mental health well-being.
About the Presenter: Silvia Barragon, MSW, LCSW, is presently Undergraduate Field Director, Title !V-E Program at SDSU School of Social Work She received training in the Hispanic Ethnic Competence Project. CA license #: LCS17451
Dianne Ciro, PhD, is presently Assistant Professor at SDSU School of Social Work. Recently arriving from New York she has extensive presentations on "Coping responses and psychological outcomes in Latino World Trade Center (WTC) first responders". NY Licensed Clinical Social Work #077070

The San Diego Chapter of CSCSW holds its meetings on the first Thursday of the month from September through June from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Jewish Family Service building, 8788 Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa. Meetings begin with a half hour of mingling, networking, and community building, followed by our program. CEU programs meet the requirements for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs as specified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences; CEUs are FREE to our members.
