Mid-Peninsula District Meeting

Mid-Peninsula District Coordinators:

Presenter: Jeffrey Edleson, PhD

Program Description: Dr. Edleson will review some of the basic research on children's exposure to adult domestic violence, their involvement in these events and the level of known co-occurring child maltreatment and domestic violence in the families. He will review recent trends in legislation and programs responding to these children and their families. He will draw on his three decades of extensive national and international work on changing policies and practices in response to violence and their families.

Learning Goals:

  1. Identify at least three clinical interventions that have been shown to be effective with this population. 
  2. Identify at least three factors to consider in assessing child exposure to domestic violence. 
  3. Cite at least two types of legislation affecting children exposed to domestic violence. 
  4. Identify at least two ways in which children experience adult domestic violence and cite the research on the impact of such violence.
About the Presenter:
  Jeffrey l. Edleson PhD is the Dean of the School of Social Welfare, University of California, Berkeley, and Professor Emeritus, School of Social Welfare, University, University of Minnesota. He is one of the world's leading authorities on children exposed to domestic violence. He has published over 120 articles and 12 books on the subject. He has been named one of the highest impact scholars in the field of social work.

Workshop Logistics:
  The meeting room is on the third floor next to the cafe with free parking below the building. Take the Main Elevator. Meeting time is 12-2:00PM with the first 15 minutes reserved for signing in and networking. The presentation starts at 12:15PM following announcements. 1.5 CEU will be offered for LCSWs - members earn credits at no cost. Credits for non-members is $15 per meeting.
