The Emotional Brain and Wellbeing: Understanding and Promoting Wellbeing in Clinical Practice
Conference Presenters: Judith Schore, MSW, Ph.D., Judith Nelson, MSW, Ph.D., Rick Hanson, Ph.D. and Rick Mendius, M.D.
Saturday, January 31, 2009
The definition of wellbeing has begun to integrate the latest information from neurobiology. This has created a new perspective on wellbeing which provides clinicians with a much more precise and elegant explanation of how to promote wellbeing in our clinical population. Our presenters will discuss three important aspects of wellbeing from this new perspective.
Judith Schore, MSW, Ph.D., who has written extensively about neurobiology and affect regulation, will help us understand the neurobiology of wellbeing.
Judith Nelson, MSW, Ph.D., who is an expert on Attachment will discuss how secure Attachment influences wellbeing.
Rick Hanson, Ph.D. a psychologist deeply involved with promoting mindfulness and Rick Mendius, M.D. a neurologist who has studied mindfulness and neurobiology, will help us understand how mindfulness practice changes the brain and promotes wellbeing.
The focus of psychotherapy is shifting from psychopathology to wellbeing. This conference will help clinicians understand this shift and prepare them to use the new information in their clinical work.
