Adult Development in Clinical Practice

This workshop will provide a brief overview of the developmental tasks, crises, and preoccupations of young, middle, and later adulthood, using but expanding on Erik Erikson's discussion. The ideas presented are intended to provide a conceptual framework only, and the presenter expects that the assessment of real individuals will take into account historical context and cultural considerations.
Through a case example from each of the adult developmental stages, the presenter will illustrate how adult developmental struggles can present or disguise themselves in clinical practice and how lack of resolution in earlier stages can affect later development.
Marjorie Milstein, LCSW received her M.S.W. from UC Berkeley, has received post-graduate training at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Institute, and has been practicing clinical work for 32 years. She taught in the graduate social work program at San Diego State University for 19 years, is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of California, and is currently in private practice where she sees clients, supervises, and consults. Marjorie received graduate teaching awards in 1992,1995, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2005, and the Clinical Social Worker of the Year award in 2001 from CSCSW and now sits on the board.

Continuing Education Credits: This course meets the qualifications for 3.5 hours of CE credit for LCSWs and MFTs as required by the California BBS. PCE #1.
